20 Tips to Lower Stress

Ahhh stress. Aside from "Twitter" or "Google," I bet "stress" ranks way up there among the most widely used words in the 21st century. I know I have been using it a lot lately!

I'm sure a lot of us have often wished to wake up one day with all our stress magically gone. And I'm sure, over time, we have learned that this is not likely to happen in the real world. But take heart! We may not be able to bid adieu to stress altogether, but we can at least lessen it.

A recent article in Yahoo!'s Shine website gives 20 very easy tips to lower our daily stress level. The writer says that the trick is in disciplining ourselves to do the little things that will keep stress at bay. It's these little things that seem unimportant, but snowball into major stress when neglected.

If you're feeling stressed, here are a 20 easy tips to try:
  • Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual.
  • Get up 20 minutes earlier than usual.
  • Before you go to sleep, prepare for the morning.
  • Bring a hat and an umbrella.
  • Don't wear tight clothes or uncomfortable shoes.
  • Make a list.
  • Listen to a favorite song.
  • Keep extra cash and stamps in the house.
  • Be polite and be fair.
  • Laugh out loud.
  • Have a good book to read.
  • Keep an extra set of keys.
  • Exercise.
  • Always keep your passport in the same place.
  • Throw something away.
  • Don't say mean things about other people.
  • Put a Bandaid in your wallet.
  • Keep gas in the car.
  • Pay attention to someone else.
  • Make your bed.
Try these out and let me know if they work out for you!

Snuggle up to Hot Cocoa

What's the perfect way to cozy up on freezing cold winter days like these? A steaming mug of decadent hot chocolate, of course!

While it's easy to just grab a pack of instant cocoa from supermarkets and you're good to go, why not make it extra special by making it at home yourself? You add a touch of love to it by making it from scratch, plus, the extra time in the kitchen is sure to warm you up, too!

I recently found an interesting website chock full of baking and dessert recipes that can easily be done at home. In the Joy of Baking website, Stephanie Jaworski lets you try out her recipes for cakes, cookies, muffins, scones, pies, tarts, and so much more. Virtually every sweet treat is there, including this super rich hot chocolate recipe that you should definitely try!

What makes this site stand out from the others is the interesting bits of history about each recipe! Here are fun tidbits about the origins of hot cocoa:

"Drinking chocolate is steeped in history. Columbus is credited with being the first to discover chocolate. When he arrived in the New World (what we now think was either Mexico or Nicaraguan) in 1502 he found the Aztecs drinking a chocolate beverage made with cocoa beans from the tropical tree Theobroma which translates to "Food of the Gods". Although the Spaniards found the beverage too bitter tasting for their palates they were amazed to see the Aztec's emperor, Montezuma, consuming up to 50 cups a day. The Aztecs made the beverage by first roasting and then grinding the cocoa beans to a paste, and then adding the paste to water, along with chili peppers and vanilla. Columbus did take cocoa beans back to Spain but they were not well received. It wasn't until Hernando Cortez brought more of the cocoa beans back to Spain from his trip to the New World (sometime around 1520) that the Spaniards found a way to process the beans to make them more palatable. They did this by adding sugar and spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, hazelnuts, almonds, orange flower water) to the chocolate paste. Once the paste was allowed to solidify it was added to water or milk. This drink immediately became popular with the Spaniards and eventually the beverage spread throughout Europe and eventually to North America."

Amazing, isn't it?

Now for the equally amazing recipe:

Hot Chocolate:
2 cups (480 ml) milk
3 ounces (90 grams) semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 ounce (30 grams) milk chocolate, chopped
1 teaspoon granulated white sugar, or to taste (optional)

1. Place the milk, semisweet chocolate, milk chocolate, and sugar (if using) in a saucepan pver medium heat and whisk periodically until the mixture just reaches the boiling point.
2. Remove from heat and if more foam is desired, use a wire whisk or hand-held immersion blender to whip the hot chocolate.
3. Pour the hot chocolate into two cups and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream (recipe below) and a dusting of cocoa powder or grated chocolate if desired.

Whipped Cream:
1/2 cup (120 ml) cold heavy whipping cream
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 tablespoon (15 grams) granulated white sugar
grated chocolate or cocoa powder

1. In your mixing bowl, place the whipping cream, vanilla extract, and sugar and stir and combine.
2. If you have time, cover and chill the bowl in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. When chilled, beat the mixture until stiff peaks form. The whipped cream will keep in the refrigerator for a day or two.

Makes two 8-ounce (240 ml) servings.

Note:
- To make hot or iced mocha, simply replace 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk with your favorite brewed coffee. Proceed with the recipe.
- If you want it iced, let the mixture cool and then pour over ice cubes. Garnish with whipped cream and grated chocolate.
- Leftovers can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days. Reheat.

Boom Boom Room 2010 Roundown!

As you may know by now, No Slippy Hair Clippy was invited yet again to Boom Boom Room's Pre-Golden Globe Awards Baby & Big Kid Wonderland Villa. This is actually our third year in a row doing this event. I know several of the celebrities on a first name basis now, which is really cool! (Samantha Harris, Joely Fisher, Jodie Sweetin, Larry Birkhead and his little Dannielynn)

(1) Joely Fisher, daughter Skyler Grace and Skyler's cousin Mikaela
(2) Kim Porter and P Diddy's twins D'lila Star and Jessie James

(1) Lou Diamond Philips, wife Yvonne Boismier and daughter Indigo Sanara
(2) Larry Birkhead and Dannielynn

(1) Ali Landry, (2) Michelle Stafford

(1) Jodie Sweetin, (2) Busy Philipps and daughter

The event this year was in a big room at the Hyatt Century City Plaza, in Century City, CA. This is where the event has taken place in the last five years. It was set up as a big oval inside with two rows of tables and an aisle in the middle where people could walk. We had VIP placement, which was really nice.

In the middle, when you walk in, Baby Couture Magazine set up a play area for the kids and refreshments for the celebrities, and a place to sit down and relax. There was a long table where celebrities gift-wrapped books which were given to charity. The books were donated by the participating brands.

Celebrities walked around table to table, receiving information about products and some samples to take with them.

After doing this event now for two years, I figured out that getting email addresses was important for other promotions, plus this year, I wanted to tie in with the Haiti relief team, and I asked each celebrity that came to our table to sign my guest book with their name and address, so I could send them an email for charity, where we will send proceeds to UNICEF and Save the Children. I received a wonderful response, and everyone was pleased to see we are doing our part. In fact, most of the celebs have already donated and are working actively with charities to help out, so that was really encouraging, very positive.

The thrill for me on Saturday (January 16th) was when Larry Birkhead came in with his daughter Dannielynn. Danielynn was wearing our lavender-grape Queen Whitney bow! When I spoke with Larry, he said, “Oh, that’s a No Slippy Hair Clippy she’s wearing, I knew you were going to be here.” That totally made my day and show!

Samantha Harris came on Sunday and gave me a big hug. She said, “I swear Josselyn wears one of your clips everyday!” She asked me about pairs (left and right-sided clips) which I told her we could make easily, and would send her some of my favorites. She gave me her mailing address.

For me, this event is give us tons of feedback, because so many of the celebrities have been gifted already by BopStar Baby baskets, so they knew our product. It’s always nice to say hello and introduce new parents to our product as well. I didn’t get a photo of Chad Lowe (Rob Lowe’s brother) but was able to hand him and his wife a clip sample. They are new parents to a baby girl, so I wanted to make sure they could see our hair clip and how special it is with the velvet lining.

The event was a lot of fun and fast-paced. I’m happy we participated. I know our fundraiser, “Hair Clips for Haiti” will be a success. I will post results once we email everyone with our promotion.

But as early as now, we are grateful for some positive response about this. I’ve noticed several blogs mentioning our participation to help Haiti, so that is really cool! There were several comments in our Facebook and Twitter accounts, too! Add us up or join our fan page to see more celebrity sightings at the Boom Boom Room :)

Special thaks go out to our dearest Amanda Elkins for taking those fantastic photos! Go check out her website, amandaelkins.com.

Too Cute for Words!

That was how Lunch Box Magazine so graciously described No Slippy Hair Clippy in a recent review that they did about us!

They tried on our clippys and headbands on darling Codie Raye, a four-month-old baby girl who has almost no hair! And here's what they had to say:

"Now Codie Raye has almost no hair to speak of… but darned if that little hair clip didn’t just stay right in place on the few hairs she has. And it was comfortable due to the base being lined with velvet. The headband looked darling on her and it wasn’t scratchy or uncomfortable. These uniquely designed hair clips have a magnet in them so they easily stay in place. The No Slippy Hair Clippy store online has every imaginable design and color you could ever want. Go to their website and see for yourself www.hairclippy.com"

You can check here to see the review, plus an adorable photo of Codie Raye ;)

Thank you so much!!!

Hairclips for Haiti

Maybe it’s because I’m a native Californian and earthquakes have been in my life since I was a small child. I clearly remember the ‘71 quake in LA like it was yesterday! I was rocked out of my bunk bed, running outside with my brother Mike, watching ripples going down the middle of the street. Those were the “bumps” hitting our homes and rocking us around! It was scary, but no damage, just a pure adrenaline rush.

After last week's massive earthquake in Haiti, and seeing the destruction, turmoil and helpless people, I wanted to do something. I unfortunately don’t own a checkbook that could make a difference at this time, so I got to thinking while on the plane down to Los Angeles, getting ready for the Boom Boom Room celebrity gifting suite. What a perfect vehicle to begin a fundraiser!

So on Friday and Saturday, January 15th and 16th, I created my plan, to help those in need in Haiti, and to donate proceeds of purchases made from No Slippy Hair Clippy to UNICEF and Save the Children charities. I asked every celebrity we met for their email address so that I could send them a link for this effort. I stressed that I wanted them to share this link with all their friends who have girls, and would want to make a meaningful purchase. The email list looks decent, and I’m now planning the details to send out the link this week.

Most importantly, it’s not about how much we can raise for Haiti, (because I’m simply not sure what this email fundraiser will bring), but it’s the idea that we’re doing something, even a small gesture, to make a difference. I’m a true believer that if everyone makes small contributions, the sum can be worthwhile. We’re small by ourselves, but giants when we unite.

If you would like to join us, please visit hairclippy.com. Each purchase will extend much-needed help for Haiti. You may also visit UNICEF or Save the Children to make donations.

A Princess Loves our Clippys!

We absolutely love getting reviews! They inspire us to keep getting better! We totally adore this one that we recently received from Annie of Annie's Home. Here's what this lovely mommy and (grandmommy!) has to say about No Slippy Hair Clippy:

"Princess is my only grandchild and I may be a bit partial but I think she looks like a little doll. I love to dress her up, buy dress clothes for her and just think she is a little doll. One of my favorite places to find hair clips and headbands for her is No Slippy Hair Clippy. There are many reasons that I love to shop there but one of the main reason is because of their selection.

...When my girls were young we would place clips in their hair only to watch them slide out as quick as we put them in. Their hair was so fine that it did not matter much what we tried for there was no clips that could stay in our daughters hair. Now my granddaughter does not need to go through this same game. With No Slippy Hair Clippy the clips will stay in hair without a problem allowing her, my daughter and my self to rest easy. Not only does the velvet feel soft but it helps to protect lil hands from pinches in my opinion."

Thank you so much Annie! We are glad that you and little Princess love our clippys :)

The rest of Annie's review (plus an adorable photo of her granddaughter) are here.

Crazy Quizzes

Don't you just love quizzes? Not the ones that made us break into cold sweat in high school. I meant, the really fun ones! I really enjoy taking them. They are may not always be accurate, but the results are always fun and sometimes, even reveal something true or new about you.

In Quizilla, you'll find a whole world of quizzes that cover just about everything under the sun. From the logical: What do your clothes say about you?, How confident are you?, Are you happy with yourself? To the quirky: What lip gloss flavor are you?, Who's your prince charming?, What's your magical power? (Remind me to take that last one!)

Created by mere mortals like you and me, the questions are simple and candid. It can be downright addicting too! I recently took the What type of book character would you be? quiz. My result: a minion! Awww... and I was hoping to be the heroine!

MINION: "You're probably kind of a follower, but you are more important than you may know. You see, the villain couldn't possibly do the stuff they think they can do without you. You're the base of the story, making everything happen."

Go take a break and try it for yourself! There are tons more here. Enjoy! :)

Jude Law's Special Girl

I don't know about you, but I simply love it when a guy openly and confidently admits that a girl has made him weak-kneed. Especially if the guy is a well-known, in-demand brilliant actor, like Jude Law. And I think the girl he's talking about has an extra special place in his heart.

Promoting his latest film, Sherlock Holmes, he admits in an article in Celebrity Baby Blog that it's his role as "dad" that takes first place in his life. He reflects on how fatherhood has changed him in so many ways. He is dad to Rafferty (13), Iris (9) and Rudy (7) with ex-wife Sadie Frost, and to Sophia (3 months old) with Samantha Burke.

He says, "My daughter made me realize that if there's anything that's going to make a man of you, it's having your will broken by a little girl."

How sweet!

Mad About Clippy

This new year is really turning out extremely well! We've been a bunch of busy bees with so many orders, have been up-and-about to prepare for the Boom Boom Room 2010 in LA, plus we've also been getting one fabulous review after the other! Like this new one from dear mommy blogger Margaret of Creative Madness. She says:

"What I love about the Hair Clippy collections is that there are so many to choose from! There are cute every outfit clips and formal clips and seasonal clips. There are bows and flowers as well as novelties and others. I love our NSHCs and cannot wait to add more. Right now I am vying for a red clip, I just need to decide what I want. With all the styles and colors, it is near impossible to not find a clip that would be perfect for any occasion.

These clips really are fabulous. I do not hesitate to recommend them to anyone and have many times. They are very well made and never come out on their own (little fingers work them out or rolling about can too). I am very happy with them and cannot wait to get more. I am a little frightened though, adding to this collection may become very addicting."

And here is a photo of her lovely, lovely daughter!

You can read the rest of her review (and see more adorable baby photos) here. Her blog is really lovely and her articles are very interesting! Bookworm moms would especially love her recommended reads :)

Thank you so much, Margaret! Your kind words inspire us to get better and better and better! Thanks, too, for lending us these wonderful images!

HELP FOR HAITI

"Hope is grief's best music." (author unknown)

The devastation in Haiti reminds us of human frailty. But more importantly, how this frailty turns to great strength when we extend a helping hand and lift each other up.

In the hope of somehow reaching out to the victims of the earthquake, we invite you to join us as we do our share in aiding our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We will be donating a portion of our sales to UNICEF to help in Haiti relief efforts. If you'd like to take part, please visit our website. Every purchase at No Slippy Hair Clippy can do so much in extending a little help.

Truly, in this time of anguish, it is incredible to see people from all walks of life coming together. UNICEF itself is overwhelmed by staggering support they have received, mostly through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. And just like they said in UNICEF's website, "We're in this together."

So let's make a difference together and let's give Haiti the gift of hope that can help them back on their feet. For more information on UNICEF's relief efforts, you can visit their site here.

And help us spread the word thru Twitter and Facebook!

When it's this cold, you know that it's time for a little cozying up. But don't forget to take care of your hair and your baby's hair too! Here are some easy tips from mamashealth.com:

* Do not shampoo often. In cold weather, both the hair and scalp dry out easily. Try to limit it to once a day.
* When you do shampoo, do it in warm water.
* Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind. Make sure your head gear is not too tight that it will restrict circulation in your scalp.
* Once the head gear is off, make sure your baby is pretty with a cute clippy. And now you can load up on them with No Slippy Hair Clippy's sale next week!

PLUS: you stand a chance to win a mystery clippy for your purchase!

All Yours and Only Yours

We have no words to describe how much we love getting feedback about our hair accessories. So you can imagine how excited and thrilled we always get whenever we get new reviews!

Recently we got a lovely one from lovely mom Christine of theiemommy.com. She tried out No Slippy Hair Clippy's Salena Monogrammed Fabric Button Hair Clips on her equally lovely twin girls. Here's an excerpt of what she thought of the clips:

"...we just finished Christmas and I can not tell you the number of gifts the twins were told that they needed to “share”. Now, I am all for sharing and teaching children to be kind and gracious… but when you are a twin… especially an identical twin…sometimes you need things that are just your own.

I believe that is why we fell in love with the Personalized Clips from No Slippy Hair Clippy. We received a very pretty brown and pink clip for Skylar personalized with “S” and a pink and green for Rylan personalized with “R”. My girls were thrilled! “This one is mine” they each proclaimed as they put them in their hair.

I have noticed that they wear them a lot... even when they don’t match their outfits. Why? Well, when they are asked “Which one are you?” as they are asked on a daily basis… they just point to their barrette."

The rest of her lovely story can be found here.

And here are the Salena Monogrammed Fabric Button Hair Clips, available in two adorable colors:

Shocking Pink

Lime

Check out the personalized headbands too :)

Thank you so much, Christine! We're glad that you and the girls loved the clips! Now Skylar and Rylan have something that is truly their own.

Boom Boom Room Updates

We're counting down the days to Boom Boom Room 2010 in LA and we cannot possibly be more excited! Here is a "snap shot" of what it will be like this year.

We were invited to participate last year too, so we're pretty familiar with how things go in the event. But this year, what's new are the several charities participating! And we're thrilled to show some support! No Slippy Hair Clippy will be leaving products for Halle Berry’s charity, called The Jenesse. It's a non-profit organization that provides shelter to women and children who were victims of domestic violence. Aside from that, I will also be bringing three to four of my favorite books to the event to donate.

I expect a HUGE turn out this year, including A-listers who are some of No Slippy Hair Clippy's first fans, which is just wonderful. I'll be tweeting updates during the event, so all those who want in on all the juicy details, follow us on Twitter: iClippy and tell us which celebrities you think we will spot!

I'm also very excited that Amanda Elkins, our prized photographer, is coming on Saturday, so I expect some very professional photo shots for us that day! Lovely young actress Ryan Newman (of Disney's Zeke and Luther) confirmed she’s coming to the show Saturday, too! This young lady is extremely busy, but is making time to visit the show to see No Slippy Hair Clippy and Amanda (who has shot her photos on several occasions).

This is an exciting time for us, and a super way to start off this New Year of 2010!

One Fantastic Review

How lovely 2010 is turning out to be for No Slippy Hair Clippy! We got wonderful new review from Nina Say of theonefantastical.com, a lovely young mom who recently tried out our hair bows. Here's an excerpt of her review:

"My daughter wore her bows all day while we were out, she wore them through three Christmas parties and she did not even mind that they were on her head. Usually my baby pulls everything off her head, my guess is because they are uncomfortable. That means, according to my daughter these baby bows and clips are almost unnoticeable while wearing them, that means A+++ for the creators and the company."

Read the rest of her super fun review here. Browse around her blog, too, if you like. She has a wide range of interesting topics.

Thank you so much for your review, Nina! And how amusing it is indeed that one of our bows is named like your beautiful Zoey!

The Boom Boom Room!

Just when I thought 2010 was starting out really well, we get invited to an exclusive celebrity gifting event next week! I can't imagine how much more exciting this year can get!

We recently received an invite to the Boom Boom Room's Pre-Golden Globe Awards Baby & Big Kid Wonderland Villa. To be held at a posh location in Beverly Hills, this is one BIG event that will gather together top baby brands to get the chance to directly gift A-list celebrities, leading press outlets and buyers from Hollywood's trendiest boutiques. This is definitely a HUGE marketing opportunity for No Slippy Hair Clippy's! An amazing chance to showcase our adorable hair accessories. We are so thankful to be part of it.

Now on its fifth year, this event was the brainchild of TV personality and glamor guru Jayneoni Moore. In previous years, it was attended by celebrity moms and dads like Tori Spelling, Denise Richards, Brooke Shields, Halle Berry, Patrick Dempsey and so much more. And it's been covered by People Magazine, Instyle Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, E! News Live and Insider, to name a few. Imagine, all of these big names trying out our hair accessories for themselves!

Truly, I cannot express how grateful we are to have been invited to this event. Especially to you, for your continued support contributed so much to our brand's success. We love you and all your little girls! You've helped make so many amazing things possible for No Slippy Hair Clippy! We can hardly wait to show off all our best hair clips, baby bows and head bands.

During the event, I will be tweeting about everything that's happening. So be sure to follow me on Twitter: iClippy. I promise to keep you updated on all the juicy stuff!

As our first offering, we have recently opened our very own store! Right in our beloved hometown at Vacaville, California, our Bowtique is the only place where our complete line of hair accessories are on display. Check out your all-time favorite styles, or our latest designs, plus in-store specials. We're sure you'll find something perfect for your girls. We invite you to come visit us.

At Bowtique, you won't miss out on our signature product, which is our guaranteed non-slip hair clips. All our adorable styles are on display, in the widest range of colors for whatever mood your little girl may be in. Wrapped in velvet for that secure hold that will never tug at her fine hair. In fact, a lot of moms have been telling me that their girls don't pull the clips out of their hair because they don't even feel that it's there!

Of course, our store also carries our lovely baby bows for all the girly girls out there. And since it's fast becoming a fashion trend, our entire line of headbands are on display for you to adore as well.

Allow me to take this opportunity to thank our friends at Earnshaw's Magazine, who featured No Slippy Hair Clippy in their Nov-Dec 2009 issue and for featuring the opening of our Bowtique in their lovely website. Check it out here.

Bowtique is located at 801 Alamo Drive, Vacaville, CA. Open from Monday to Friday, 10:00AM to 5:00 PM. All major credit cards accepted. Or you may contact us at (800) 466-7304.

We'll see you there!

New Year, New Baby!

Congratulations to Matthew McCounaghey and Camila Alves!

The couple welcomed their darling baby girl early Sunday morning. Reports say that the 40-year-old actor and his girlfriend named their baby "Vida," which is Portuguese for "life."

On his website, Matthew explains: "Vida is Portuguese for "life" and that's what God gave us this morning... Camila's recovering wonderfully, and we are both truly honored to welcome this little lady into our family."

Little Vida now joins big brother Levi, one-year-old, in the couple's happy home.

What a great gift for the new year! Our best wishes!
