Gifts for “Just ‘Cause”

We like showering our kids with gifts, whether they be material or otherwise, because we like seeing them happy. If we could, we’d even give the whole world to them.

Long before we even get to see their cute as a button faces and tiny little hands and feet, they’re already getting presents of all shapes and sizes. Pretty soon, we’re celebrating christening and first birthday parties that are surely met with piles of gifts and treats.

Birthdays have become synonymous with birthday gifts and each year, we do our best to match our child’s expectations. Then there’s December, an eventful month filled with gift-giving holidays that could extend for more than a week.

Special occasions like your child’s first graduation or a congratulatory gift for being an honor student are opportunities for gift-giving as well.

But you don’t have to wait for these dates to roll around. Give gifts “just ‘cause” you love them, you’re proud of them and you want to put a smile on their faces. Who doesn’t love surprises? Just the thought of their reactions is enough to get us all excited as well.

Gifts that are given “just ‘cause” can be more memorable than special occasion gifts. The fact that it’s unexpected shows your caring and thoughtfulness.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

Stuffed Animal. Kids go gaga over these cuddly friends. Some favorites are furry rabbits, soft silky kitty cats, and huggable puppies. While boys in general are not into stuffed animals as much as girls are, there are still a lot of plush creatures that they will appreciate such as Spongebob and Sesame Street characters, to name a few.

Books/DVD. Youngsters love stories old and new, no matter how they’re told. You can choose from children’s classics like “Aesop’s fables”, “The Secret Garden” or “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. If you’d like to introduce them to contemporary literature, they’ll surely like “Where the Wild Things Are” or “Diary of A Wimpy Kid” for the cool illustrations. Dr. Seuss is one of my personal favorites for early books, with the funny rhyming stories that kids remember and helps teaches them to read. Another gift idea is giving them DVD’s of their favorite movies. Animated Disney and Pixar flicks are sure to attract even the youngest of children.

Accessories. Kids love playing dress up, some more than the others. The interest for accessories is clearly there, especially as children go through their phases. For your little girl who likes to pretend she’s a magical fairy, buy her a sparkly wand or a pair of glittery tights. If you’re young man is into the cowboy look, get him a bandanna and a cowboy hat. If you’d like to be practical, the easiest to shop for are sunglasses, belts, hats and hair accessories. Best of all, they can be used the whole year round!

Make a quick trip to the mall one of these days to pick something out. Any other just ‘cause gift ideas you’d like to share?
