What to Pack for Summer Camp?

Your daughter is off to summer camp, but is her hair ready for a month in the wilderness? The elements can weigh down her locks, so pack these hair boosters to keep them looking lovely and tangle-free.

1. Soft round brush and wide-toothed comb

Start with two tools that drive frizz away. First, give her a soft round brush that can straighten the kinks that form after a sun-drenched afternoon. Then remind her to use a wide-toothed comb before showering to prevent tangles from forming.

2. The right conditioner

Most camps stock up on shampoo, but conditioner? It’s going to be every girl for herself. If she’s got drier-than-normal hair, throw a moisturizing conditioner into her overnight bag. If she’s just had her first highlights done, then a color-boosting conditioner might be a better option.

3. Smooth silk or satin pillow cover

Camp accommodations are clean and safe, but comfort isn’t always high on the list of priorities. It may seem like a small thing, but when she settles down to bed after a long, exciting day, she’ll be glad to have a little piece of home with her.

4. Outdoor hair accessories.

Summer camp is about having fun outdoors. Your daughter will play tag, roll on the grass, and generally take part in all sorts of physical activities that are likely to mess up her hair… that is, unless she goes to camp prepared! With the right No Slippy Hair Clippy® hair accessory, you can keep her locks neat and tidy all day long:

French clips like the Valerie bow (available in leopard print or zebra print) won’t shake loose even during the most demanding physical exertions, the safari-themed designs are a lot of fun, and most importantly, they’re comfy!

For a more colorful look, go for the Whitney Princess* bow in bubblegum pink. The bright pink looks great on any hair color, and the soft grosgrain ribbon won’t snag on her hair.

The delicate-as-a-daisy Belinda flower clip in white is a summer camp favorite. But if you’re looking for more colorful varieties, we carry the clip in wildflower colors like lavender, orange, and turquoise. You can even get them all so she can wear a different one each day of the week!

Who doesn’t love sparkly things in summer? The Felicia flower clip is a bejeweled treasure she’ll want to show off to everyone at camp. It’s best worn on a side part to help hold her bangs in place.

Now that you’re all packed, don’t forget a loving peck and encourage her to have a truly happy time at summer camp!

Cool Comfort, In and Out of the Crib

You might think a trusty old fan will do the trick, but your daughter needs a lot more to keep the prickly heat away. Here are a few suggestions on how to keep your little one cool and comfortable this summer season.

Tip 1: Keep her out of direct sunlight
Because she’s still so young, your baby hasn’t quite developed adequate natural protection from the sun. Always remember that direct exposure can quite quickly and easily lead to sunburn, and she’ll be feeling the effects long before you do.

Try to keep her indoors during the hottest times of the day, especially from 10 AM to 4 PM. You can take those lovely walks in the park in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun isn’t quite as high in sky.
However, if you absolutely must take her out with you to brunch, then a well covered stroller is a necessity. Check up on her frequently to see how she’s doing, and remember to keep her hydrated with lots of liquids.

Tip 2: Clothe her in breathable fabrics
When choosing baby clothes for summer, you can’t go wrong with soft, lightweight cotton, but go easy on the layers. Delicate knit fabrics are also a great choice because they absorb perspiration which helps prevent rashes caused by sweat.

Synthetic fibers are not as breathable, as cute as they may be, try to avoid clothes made using polyester. And don’t forget, larger neck openings and wider cuffs will make her outfits feel more airy and give her the freedom she needs to be mobile.

Tip 3: Give her the right hair accessories
Stay away from hats, caps and bonnets that tend to trap the heat, if you want to keep her head covered then go for wide-brimmed, loose knit fabric hats that breathe. If she’s going to be in a covered stroller most of the time, even better, you can ditch the hat and go for something cute.

Why not stick to all-purpose hair accessories that keep her head cool and have the added benefit of being careful on her hair while securing it in place? No Slippy Hair Clippy® offers adorable clips and headbands for any budget, featuring new, lower prices on many classics!

The Grace headband tidies up stray tufts of hair, keeping them in place with a soft ruffle band. The band stretches comfortably around your daughter’s head and the soft, smooth edges fit snugly and gently.

For a burst of color, consider the Tallulah flower, which features an embroidered flower design in warm shades like amethyst, olive and maroon.

No Slippy Hair Clippy® has a great selection of other baby and toddler hair accessories that keep hair neat and keep your daughter cool. Have a look around or leave a comment for more summer accessory-related advice!

Flowers Fit for Clipping

With peak blooming season occurring right around this time of the year, May is often called the Flower Month. Look around – gardens and fields are bursting with spring colors as buds mature into full-fledged blossoms.

Who says there’s no time to stop and smell the roses? Perhaps even pop a flower in your daughter’s hair to act as a highlight!

Well, maybe not… real flowers attract bees and other stinging insects, are hard to keep in place, and wilt in no time! Fear not, we’ve got just the answer!

The Lindsey flower radiates all the natural beauty of a magnolia, but adds just a bit more glitz and glamour. This radiant two-inch flower shows off a sprinkling of sequins, and each petal is shaded in dual-color tones. The design sits securely on a no-slip pinch clip easily attached or removed, with absolutely no need for fiddly readjustment during the day.

Looking for something more artsy for the little one? Then you might want to go with a hair clip like the Nahla polka dot flower. Beautiful stitching replicates the look of a handmade crafts project, with its splotches of candy-colored dots and a cute sewn-on button.

For the girl who loves her sparkles, the Alexis mod flower never disappoints. Two flowers in complementing shades make up its body, with a bright pink five-petal beauty sitting atop a deeper purple base. The Alexis style offers three more color options including the lovely shade of lavender seen above.

It won’t be long before springtime comes to a close, but with these No Slippy Hair Clippy® flowers in your daughter’s wardrobe, she can sport a spring powered look all year long!
