Retro Hairstyles for Today's Modern Woman

(Since we just featured hairstyles of young Hollywood’s up-and-coming It girls, it just seems fair to look back at hairstyles of classic style icons of the past.)

On January 11, 1935, Amelia Earhart became the first person (man or woman) to fly solo across the Pacific. In honor of her pioneering spirit, let’s look at some hairstyles from the past that are still chic and appropriate for today’s modern woman.

There is a reason why Audrey Hepburn is such a fashion icon – her timeless beauty and her classic sense of style are as pretty and relevant today as they were 50 years ago. Copy her classic high pony for an elegant, understated look. Accent it with the Bridget hair bow, a 1 ¾” grosgrain boutique style baby bow on a pinch clip. The Bridget is available in cream, lavender, white, pink, shocking pink, and red.

Amelia Earhart’s short, spunky, fuss-free hairdo is a boon for busy, working moms (and female aviators!) everywhere. Use the Retro Dots Clipettes Prints to keep short pieces of hair off your face. The Retro Dots Clipette is a brown ribbon with pink and green retro dots.

Brigitte Bardot’s long, messy bedhead is still as fashionable today as it was 50 years ago. Pin back stray tresses with the Devyn, a color block grosgrain bow. This 3 ½” sequin/silk organza bow on a pinch clip is available in bubblegum and light blue.

Sophia Loren’s ‘do might seem a bit dated, but a little less teasing at the crown would make this a more modern 'do. Instead of an animal print fur coat, highlight your look with the Tatum bow. The Tatum is a 2” grosgrain animal print baby bow with tails. It is available in black zebra, light brown giraffe and dark brown leopard.
