You might think a trusty old fan will do the trick, but your daughter needs a lot more to keep the prickly heat away. Here are a few suggestions on how to keep your little one cool and comfortable this summer season.

Tip 1: Keep her out of direct sunlight

Because she’s still so young, your baby hasn’t quite developed adequate natural protection from the sun. Always remember that direct exposure can quite quickly and easily lead to sunburn, and she’ll be feeling the effects long before you do.

Try to keep her indoors during the hottest times of the day, especially from 10 AM to 4 PM. You can take those lovely walks in the park in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun isn’t quite as high in sky.

However, if you absolutely must take her out with you to brunch, then a well covered stroller is a necessity. Check up on her frequently to see how she’s doing, and remember to keep her hydrated with lots of liquids.

Tip 2: Clothe her in breathable fabrics

When choosing baby clothes for summer, you can’t go wrong with soft, lightweight cotton, but go easy on the layers. Delicate knit fabrics are also a great choice because they absorb perspiration which helps prevent rashes caused by sweat.

Synthetic fibers are not as breathable, as cute as they may be, try to avoid clothes made using polyester. And don’t forget, larger neck openings and wider cuffs will make her outfits feel more airy and give her the freedom she needs to be mobile.

Tip 3: Give her the right hair accessories

Stay away from hats, caps and bonnets that tend to trap the heat, if you want to keep her head covered then go for wide-brimmed, loose knit fabric hats that breathe. If she’s going to be in a covered stroller most of the time, even better, you can ditch the hat and go for something cute.

Selecting a Playtime Outfit

Taking your daughter to the park or playground for playtime? Don’t let her wear just any cute dress and slippers. It’s important that you choose comfortable yet still stylish clothes that she can move in.

Basically, there are three essential items to include in your daughter’s playtime outfit.

Secure and soft-padded shoes. Choose footwear that has secure straps and laces. Shoes with a layer of plush padding are also recommended to reduce foot strain. Avoid slippers and other loose footwear as these tend to slip off and go missing

Covered and stretchy, not bulky! Bulky clothes tend to snag or get caught, also, since the weather’s warm and sunny you can go with dresses, tops and bottoms made of light and flexible fabrics. Cover up her knees and elbows with stretchy undershirts and leggings for the more physical activities.
